Eastleigh Local Area Committee (LAC) granted outline planning permission for a new community at a site south of Chestnut Avenue and west of Stoneham Lane, Eastleigh.

The new development will provide 1100 new homes and the proposals also include plans to create a new local centre with a new primary school, children’s pre-school nursery, community building, residential care home, retail and office buildings and car parking.

A key feature at the heart of the scheme is the creation of a large public open space including children’s play equipment, new pathways and cycle ways and landscaping. There will be a new road access onto Stoneham Lane.

Chair of Eastleigh LAC Cllr Paul Bicknell said “This exciting development of a new community will see enhanced facilities for all Eastleigh residents with great improvements to parts of the historic park and restoration of historic buildings. More people than ever before will be able to access this land and understand the historic value with its restoration. Above all, much needed affordable housing will be provided allowing local people to be able to have a home of their own. This in turn will help to reduce our housing waiting list and, with the rest of the development, assist in meeting the shortfall in housing across the Borough.”

He added, “Local people will also benefit from long awaited improvements in infrastructure on the road network along the Chestnut Avenue corridor together with the creation of jobs and improvements in the provision of local sporting opportunities.”

Proposals also include an extension to Lakeside Country Park along Stoneham Lane with associated footpath and cycle way links. Land south of Junction 5 of the M27 will be used for the provision of replacement playing pitches. This will include changing facilities, all-weather playing surfaces, spectator stands and flood lighting.

Richards Urban Design prepared the masterplan and Design and Access Statement for the site and are very proud to have been part of the project.
